PACE to provide European market with centralized capabilities for superior diamond turning, tooling and metrology
Portage, MI (USA) – Micro-LAM, Inc., a manufacturer of laser-assisted systems for ultra-precision machining, has joined three key business units in AMETEK’s Ultra-Precision Technology group to form the Precision Advancement Center of Excellence (PACE) in the United Kingdom. PACE features the latest innovations in ultra-precision machining, tooling and metrology equipment in a single location.
The PACE facility is the premiere resource for solving ultra-precision machining challenges across all of Europe, providing expert applications engineers offering customer support, training sessions and educational workshops for superior customer experience.
In addition to supplying PACE with the Optimus laser-assisted systems and experienced applications specialists, Micro-LAM subsidiaries M10 Edge and 603 OPTX will also be part of the customer solutions available at PACE. M10 Edge is a UK-based company specialized in manufacturing high-quality ultra-precision diamond cutting tools. 603 OPTX excels at solving difficult challenges in diamond-turning optics and providing turn-key solutions. Both will bring significant added value to customers visiting PACE.

PACE is housed in the Taylor Hobson world headquarters (Leicester, UK), and is joined by its AMETEK businesses Precitech (Keene, NH, USA) and Zygo (Middlefield, CT, USA). Deepak Ravindra, Ph.D., Founder and CEO of Micro-LAM noted that the opening is especially timely. “With COVID disrupting travel, customers are not able to visit the United States to evaluate new equipment. This delays their implementation of cutting-edge technology.”
In addition to expanding cooperation with AMETEK partners Taylor Hobson and Zygo, I am delighted to expand our partnership with Micro-LAM to deliver unrivaled performance in ultra-precision machining of glass and other challenging substrates.” He added, “Their laser technology, combined with our industry-leading machining capabilities, offers something truly unique – extended tool life, and the fast, accurate machining of challenging and materials not previously capable of being machined.
Deepak agreed, “This is a great step forward for the Micro-LAM family, our AMETEK partners, and our customers. The PACE is an ultra-precision machining “playground” for the precision machining community. What makes this venture more exciting is the timing. While our industry has been somewhat separated by the global health pandemic in 2020, we are joining forces to provide our customers in Europe access to state-of-the-art technology.”
